Without going over the top, the Honda Pilot brings a bold appearance. With its third-row seating, families can use this SUV while appreciating its refined stylings.

The front grille is prominently displayed in chrome and beautifully integrates into the LED headlights. Looking to the rear, prominent LED taillights also adorn the corners. Despite being a large SUV, the Pilot carries some smooth lines throughout its body, helping with aerodynamics. This thoughtful design allows for it to provide great fuel economy despite its large size.

Those opting for either the Special Edition or Black Edition will receive some unique exterior features. Both editions look to add extra black exterior pieces. The Special Edition comes with both black roof rails as well as black alloy wheels. On the other hand, the Black Edition employs those same additions along with blacking out some other exterior trims as well.

EX-L

While the EX-L is the lowest trim in the Pilot lineup, it is packed to the brim with standard features. The EX-L featured plush leather seating for 8 occupants and a large 8-inch center console touchscreen display. The system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration along with SiriusXM and HD Radio, all standard. Other luxury features not typically found in the base trim levels include LED headlights, sunroof, heated mirrors, and remote engine start. Additionally, the EX-L comes with the full Honda Sensing safety suite, so there is no compromise on safety.

Special Edition

The Special Edition is a small step above the EX-L. It comes with black-colored roof rails and 20-inch black alloy wheels, contrasting nicely with the rest of the car. Further convenience features such as wireless charging and a hands-free tailgate are also standard.

Touring

The Touring trim continues to increase the luxury features, especially for second-row passengers. Second-row captain seats are offered with the Touring as well as an Advanced Rear Entertainment System. Additional standard features include sound-reducing windows, an upgraded 10-speaker audio system, and a built-in wi-fi hotspot.

Elite

The Elite is the top-of-the-line trim for the 2022 Honda Pilot. It comes with all the options from the previous trims as standard, such as the second-row captain’s chairs. Additional luxuries include a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, and heated and ventilated front seats.

Black Edition

For those that want the boldest Honda Pilot, there’s the Black Edition. The Black Edition is the Elite trim but with black exterior trim pieces and red interior stitching. Additionally, red ambient lighting is included.

Pilot Performance

The 2022 Honda Pilot is offered in a single engine configuration with either FWD or AWD.

Honda builds the Pilot with a 3.5L V6 engine producing 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. A 9-speed automatic transmission is found in every Pilot. Fuel economy will be dependent on whether the Pilot is equipped with FWD or AWD. For FWD models, the city/highway/combined fuel economy is a respectable 20/27/23. For AWD models, the drop in fuel efficiency is barely perceptible at 19/26/22.

The Honda Pilot is also no slouch when it comes to towing. The towing capacity for FWD models is 3,500 pounds. For the AWD-equipped models, the capacity grows to 5,000 pounds.

Pilot Safety Features

Every Honda Pilot comes with a host of driver assistance features said to prevent accidents. In the event of a crash, the 2022 Honda Pilot still hosts a 5-star overall crash safety rating from the NHTSA.

Some of the most important features in the Honda Sensing suite include:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS): The system will constantly monitor the front of the car for any possible collisions. When it senses a possible collision, the system will alert the driver to brake. If the driver has not responded to the alert, then the car will apply the brakes automatically.

  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS): The camera in the front of the Pilot will keep track of any lane markings. If the system detects that the driver is veering out of their lane, then the Pilot will subtly adjust the steering to bring the SUV back into its lane.
