All-New Honda Civic Type R Arrives at Tokyo Auto Salon

Fresh from testing at the Suzuka Circuit, the all-new Honda Civic Type R made its first public appearance in prototype at the Tokyo Auto Salon, Japan’s premiere high-performance and custom car show. Wearing a special camouflage designed exclusively for Type R, the prototype is featured in a new action-packed test-driving video, so Tokyo Auto Salon visitors can go behind the scenes with Honda engineers and experience the development of Type R. The best performing Civic Type R ever will be officially unveiled this year.

Refined Styling

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R will feature some more reserved styling, which will give it a fresh new look and separate itself from its predecessor. Despite the more tamed styling, the 2023 Civic Type R will not be lacking in the performance department.

Refreshed Performance

This high-performance hatchback will most likely feature an updated version of the already peppy turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The current generation of the Civic Type R makes 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Expect a healthy increase in both of those numbers with the 2023 Civic Type R. The 2023 Civic Type R is also going to retain its manual transmission, giving the driver a more raw and engaging driving experience.

Minimalistic & Modern

We expect the new 2023 Civic Type R to feature a more minimalist interior design, to mimic the more refined exterior styling. The interior will most likely feature a more mature environment, along with some racy visual cues. Red accents, carbon-fiber trim, and sport bucket seats are anticipated along with a digital gauge cluster. The interior should also maintain some practicality, as most Hondas do, with two or more cupholders, a large storage area, and physical climate controls.
