The important details
The 2026 Civic Hybrid continues the current eleventh-generation Civic’s two-motor hybrid formula. It is available in Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid trims, and both trims can be ordered as either a sedan or hatchback.
Every Civic Hybrid is front-wheel drive and uses regular unleaded gasoline. It is not a plug-in hybrid: the gasoline engine, electric motors, and regenerative braking system manage battery charging automatically while you drive.
One clarification the old copy missed: Honda’s 200-horsepower figure is the total hybrid-system output. The 2.0-liter gasoline engine is rated at 141 horsepower, while the traction motor supplies strong low-speed response with 232 lb-ft of torque.
Civic Hybrid overview
Take a closer look at the Civic Hybrid's two-motor performance, interior technology, efficiency, and everyday driving experience.
Efficient does not have to mean dull
The two-motor system combines a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine with an electric traction motor. Immediate motor response makes city acceleration feel stronger than the fuel-economy numbers might suggest.
Steering-wheel deceleration selectors let you choose how strongly the car slows when you lift off the accelerator. That recovered energy helps recharge the hybrid battery and can reduce reliance on the friction brakes.
A MacPherson-strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension help the Civic stay composed and responsive. ECON, Normal, and Sport modes are standard; Sport Touring Hybrid adds a customizable Individual mode.
Same hybrid power, two useful shapes
The sedan delivers the strongest highway rating and a traditional separated trunk. Its 14.8 cubic feet of cargo space is generous for a compact sedan, while the 50 city / 47 highway / 49 combined MPG estimate favors commuters.
The hatchback is 5.8 inches shorter overall but provides a wide liftback opening and 24.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats. It gives up two highway MPG compared with the sedan while retaining the same 200-hp output.
EPA estimates are city/highway/combined. Cargo measurements and real-world fuel economy vary with conditions, loading, accessories, driving habits, and other factors.
Two trims in both body styles
Sport Hybrid includes the full 200-hp hybrid powertrain and the comfort equipment most Minnesota commuters want without requiring the top trim.
Sport Touring Hybrid keeps the same horsepower and MPG rating as Sport Hybrid in its respective body style, then adds the larger displays, wireless connectivity, premium audio, and upgraded seating.
MSRPs exclude destination, taxes, registration, options, accessories, and dealer fees. Confirm equipment and pricing on the specific vehicle.
The practical upgrade question
| Feature | Sport Hybrid | Sport Touring Hybrid |
|---|---|---|
| Hybrid output | 200 hp | 200 hp |
| Touchscreen | 7 inches | 9 inches with Google built-in |
| Apple CarPlay / Android Auto | Wired | Wireless |
| Driver display | 7-inch TFT | 10.2-inch digital cluster |
| Audio | 8 speakers | 12-speaker Bose system |
| Seats | Heated cloth front seats | Heated leather-trimmed seats; power driver seat |
| Wireless phone charger | No | Standard |
| MPG and cargo | Same as Sport Touring within each body style | Same as Sport Hybrid within each body style |
Bottom line: choose Sport Hybrid if the powertrain, heated seats, moonroof, and dual-zone climate control cover your needs. Choose Sport Touring Hybrid when the larger screens, wireless phone integration, premium audio, leather, and power driver seat will improve every commute.
No charging cord required
At lower speeds, the electric traction motor can do much of the work of moving the Civic. The gasoline engine can generate electricity, provide power at higher speeds, or work with the motor when acceleration demands more output.
Regenerative braking captures energy during deceleration instead of wasting all of it as heat. Because the system charges its own battery while driving, there is no charging-port routine to add to your day.
Both body styles carry a 50-MPG city estimate, where regenerative braking and electric assistance can be especially useful.
The Civic Hybrid uses regular unleaded fuel rather than requiring premium.
The high-voltage battery is managed automatically by the hybrid system.
Deceleration selectors provide multiple levels of regenerative slowing.
Technology by trim
Sport Hybrid provides smartphone integration through its 7-inch touchscreen, along with physical controls for commonly used functions. Sport Touring Hybrid moves to a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone compatibility, a wireless phone charger, and Google built-in.
Google built-in provides access to Google Maps, Google Assistant or supported in-car AI functions, and compatible apps through Google Play. The 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster can also display useful vehicle and navigation information.
Driver assistance on every hybrid
Both Civic Hybrid trims include Honda Sensing® plus Blind Spot Information with Cross Traffic Monitor. These systems assist an attentive driver and do not replace safe driving or visual checks.
Choose the sedan for the strongest highway fuel-economy rating, the hatchback for easier cargo loading, Sport Hybrid for value, or Sport Touring Hybrid for premium technology and comfort.
