Honda Trail Experience App Gives TrailSport Owners a New Way to Explore Off Road

July 23rd, 2026 by

If you own a Honda TrailSport, your next adventure just got a little more interesting.

Honda has officially introduced the new Honda Trail Experience (HTX) app, a free tool designed specifically for owners of the 2026 Honda Passport TrailSport, 2026 Honda Pilot TrailSport, and 2026 Honda CR-V TrailSport. The app combines live vehicle data, trail mapping, and built-in video recording to help drivers get more out of every trip off the pavement.

Developed by Honda engineers with feedback from more than 1,500 TrailSport owners and off-road enthusiasts, HTX focuses on making off-road driving easier to understand while helping owners capture and share their adventures.

Whether you’re exploring forest roads in northern Minnesota or taking your TrailSport on a weekend camping trip, the new app adds another layer to the experience.

What Is the Honda Trail Experience (HTX) App?

Honda Trail Experience is the brand’s first app built specifically for off-road driving. Available as a free download through the Apple App Store, the app connects your compatible iPhone to your TrailSport using Apple CarPlay.

Once connected, HTX displays real-time vehicle information directly on your Honda’s touchscreen while also recording your route and performance throughout your drive.

Drivers can customize the display to show the information that’s most important to them, making it easier to understand how the vehicle is performing as trail conditions change.

Current compatibility includes:

Honda has also confirmed that an Android version is planned for the future.

Real-Time Vehicle Data Helps Build Confidence

One of the biggest advantages of HTX is the ability to monitor important vehicle information while you’re on the trail.

The app can display up to six live data points at once from a total of eleven available measurements, including:

  • Elevation
  • Vehicle pitch
  • Vehicle roll
  • Throttle position
  • Brake pressure
  • Steering angle
  • Vehicle speed
  • Engine temperature
  • Outside temperature
  • GPS location
  • Latitude and longitude

For drivers who are newer to off-roading, having this information readily available can provide extra confidence when navigating uneven terrain. Experienced off-road enthusiasts will also appreciate being able to review recorded data after completing a trail.

Record and Share Your Off-Road Adventures

HTX isn’t just about vehicle information. Honda also designed the app to make documenting your adventures much easier.

Using your iPhone’s camera and microphone, the app records video while automatically adding useful overlays that include:

  • Trail maps
  • Vehicle performance data
  • Route information
  • Driving statistics

The result is a professional-looking video without needing to edit everything afterward.

Because recording is controlled through your Honda’s touchscreen, your phone can be mounted almost anywhere. Drivers can capture footage from inside the cabin, attach the phone to the exterior of the vehicle, or even have someone standing along the trail record the action while remaining connected to the vehicle.

The app also supports still photography, making it easy to capture memorable stops along your route.

Built with TrailSport Owners in Mind

Rather than developing the app entirely in-house, Honda worked directly with the people most likely to use it.

More than 1,500 Passport TrailSport owners helped shape the project, and earlier this year Honda invited beginner, intermediate, and experienced off-road drivers to test HTX in real-world conditions at The Overland Company in North Carolina.

The feedback gathered during those trail sessions is already helping guide future improvements.

Honda has also included a built-in “Share Feedback” feature so owners can continue submitting ideas directly to the development team. That means HTX is expected to continue growing with additional features over time.

A Perfect Fit for Honda’s TrailSport Lineup

TrailSport models have become an increasingly important part of Honda’s SUV lineup by offering enhanced capability while remaining comfortable enough for everyday driving.

Unlike dedicated rock crawlers that spend most of their lives on difficult trails, the Passport TrailSport, Pilot TrailSport, and CR-V TrailSport are designed for drivers who want confidence on gravel roads, forest service roads, camping trips, snowy Minnesota winters, and weekend adventures without sacrificing everyday comfort.

The new HTX app complements that philosophy by giving owners more information, more confidence, and an easier way to relive their experiences after the trip is over.
