How to Replace a Honda Key Fob Battery

Replacing your Honda’s key fob battery is one of those tasks that may seem daunting if you’ve never done it before. Luckily, it’s not something you have to do very often, but when your battery is on it’s last legs, you’ll notice slower reaction times when you press anything or it’ll stop working altogether. When that happens, here’s how you can change it yourself.

Find the Right Tools

• Your Key (pretty self-explanatory)
• Replacement battery (check your owners manual for the exact type)
• Something small and flat to open your key fob (mechanical key inside fob, or a small screwdriver)

Step 1: Remove Mechanical Key

You’ll see a small button on the side of your key. Press that, and pull the key out

Step 2: Open the Fob

Insert the tip of the key into the slot where the key was, and gently twist the two halves of the fob apart. You can also use a small screwdriver

Step 3: Remove the old battery

Note the “+” or “-” of the old battery before removing

Step 4: Insert New Battery

Place the new battery in the compartment ensuring the correct orientation

Step 5: Reassemble

Align the two halves of the fob and press firmly until they snap back into place.

Step 6: Reinsert Key

Slide the mechanical key back into the fob until it clicks.
